Pack My RX
To ensure success of this new program, please read through all the information. Please reach out to the Camp Wise office with any questions.
Why is Camp Wise making this switch?
Health and wellness are guiding values for us every summer, and we are continually working on ways to improve our Health Center, and everything it provides for our campers. Camp Wise meets the health and safety standards of the State of Ohio and the American Camp Association.
New this year, we will be partnering with a company called Pack My Rx in order to more efficiently manage all of our campers’ medication needs. This allows our staff to easily distribute the correct medications to all campers, to reduce the time that campers need to wait for the meds and improve the overall function of our Health Center. Please use this section to familiarize yourself with our new medication intake system through Pack My Rx.
Will all Campers use Pack My Rx?
Only campers in the following program will NOT use Pack My Rx:
- Israel Leadership Summer
- JDay Camp Goes to Wise – Both 3-day programs
- Campers from Kibbutz Kissufim
What do we use Pack My Rx for?
All medications or supplements that are taken daily and “as needed.” These include:
- Prescriptions
- Over-the-counter medications
- Vitamins
- Melatonin
How does it work?
Pack My Rx packages daily medications into clearly labeled, single-dose pouches with your child’s name, medication, date, and time and provides “as needed” items in the appropriate bottles. This American Camp Association–endorsed system reduces errors, shortens wait times, and improves overall care.
Medications Exempt from Pack My Rx
Only the following medications are exempt from using Pack My Rx:
- Accutane
- Injectable medications (e.g. EpiPen, insulin)
- Inhalers
- Oral contraceptive pills
- Lactase (Lactaid)
- Gummies
- Vitamin gummies – please switch to chewable or pill forms before camp so your camper is familiar with the format (and include this in your Pack My Rx registration)
- Melatonin gummies are accepted and should be listed “as needed” in your registration over-the-counter section and will be packed separately by Pack My Rx.
How will Camp Wise manage medications exempt from Pack My Rx?
Inhaler and Auto Injectable medications (daily or as needed):
- Must be hand delivered to a Camp Wise Health Center Staff member, on arrival day.
- Labeling Instructions: Label the individual item (not the box) with your child’s full name, use tape or other sticky labels – do not write directly on the plastic cases or tubes, as it will rub off.
- Send the box that has the prescription label on it.
- Emergency Inhalers:
- Bring at least two inhalers (labeled as described above). Your child’s staff will keep one inhaler on their person.
- We will keep the second in the Health Center as a backup.
- Be sure the expiration date is current.
- Epinephrine Auto Injectables:
- Bring at least two epi pens
- Your child’s staff will always carry one with them
- The other will be kept in the Health Center to use in an emergency.
- Be sure the expiration date is current.
- Growth Hormones and other Injectables:
- Should come in their original packaging and will be kept in the Health Center.
- The box should have the prescription label on it.
Oral Contraceptive Pills and Accutane:
- Bring currently used packets with your child on arrival day, and hand deliver to a Camp Wise Health Center staff member.
- Additional packets of oral contraceptives or Accutane should be brought with you on arrival day and also handed to a Camp Wise Health Center staff member.
- Labeling Instructions: Clearly label your child’s name on each packet ensuring that it will not wear or rub off.
- Also, bring the box that has the prescription label on it.
Lactase (Lactaid):
- Bring packets with your child on arrival day. These should be hand delivered to a Camp Wise Health Center staff member. Please be sure to bring enough for the session. They will be held in the dining hall for easy access at meals and snack time.
What if my child needs occasional over-the-counter medication?
If your child needs an occasional non-prescription (over-the-counter) medication, the Health Center will have it in stock and we will administer it to your child when appropriate. That includes pain medications, allergy medications, cold medications, etc.
A list of over-the-counter medications stocked at the Camp Wise Health Center is available on the Health History form in your CampIn Touch account.
We DO NOT STOCK naproxen (Aleve), melatonin, dimenhydrinate (Dramamine), meclizine (Bonine) or lactase (Lactaid).

- If you make any changes to the Health History form after April 15, please notify wisekids@mandeljcc.org
We know that sometimes parents try to fine tune their camper’s medication dosages just before camp begins. For the health of your camper, we encourage you to maintain a stable medication regimen and avoid medication and dosage changes just prior to camp. Since you can best assess your child’s response to medication changes at home, we encourage you to make medication changes at least 60 days prior to camp or to wait until after camp.
What if my Camper Needs a Prescription during camp?
Camp Wise has a wonderful relationship with CVS Pharmacy in Chardon just a few miles from camp.
If our camp physician prescribes medication for your camper, we will contact you first, and then we will use CVS Pharmacy to fill the prescription.
- We will always contact you before we start a camper on any prescription medication.
When we contact you to notify you of a prescription medication needed, we will ask you to call CVS directly (440-286-9445) to give them all of your insurance information and provide them with a credit card.
Often there are issues with parents’ insurance that we cannot control, so it’s most efficient for parents to call them directly.
If you are already registered with CVS, please give them a call now (440-286-9445) to make sure that your insurance and credit card information are accurate.
- We will charge your Mandel Jewish Community Center account for the cost of the prescription if CVS does not have a valid credit card on file.
- If CVS is not able to process the prescription through your insurance, they will charge the retail cost of the medication, and you may submit that to your insurer for reimbursement.
