Jewish Life at Camp
Judaism and Jewish culture are included in nearly everything we do at camp. Our core values permeate all of our activities. Some examples are:
- Brachot (blessings) before and after meals
- Hebrew signs with English translations and transliterations are all around camp and on our buildings
- Shabbat is celebrated with so much ruach (spirit)!
- Discussions about the Jewish value of bal tashchit (do not destroy) after a nature hike
Each village gets the opportunity to plan and lead a Shabbat tefilah [service] under the supervision of our Jewish Educator, Rabbi Shana Nyer, for the entire camp community.
Each cabin participates in various Jewish educational and cultural activities, including time with our educator, engaging in Israeli programs (and food!), and time spent with our song leaders learning camp’s favorite Jewish music.
Overnight camp is a unique, transformative environment of total immersion and ‘living’ Judaism. At Camp Wise, accessibility for everyone – regardless of background, knowledge, experience, or ability – is created by the openness of the community. Campers gain a sense of ownership for their own Jewish exploration and identification that stays with them beyond camp. The emotional and spiritual connections made at camp create lasting, life-long memories.
B'nai Mitzvah Tutoring Information
Will your camper have a B’nai Mitzvah within six months of camp finishing for the summer? Would you like for them to continue tutoring while at camp? No problem, just sign up when you register and we will be happy to tutor them weekly. Please send them with copies of any materials they need to study. We don’t want them to risk losing or damaging originals. If you have any questions, please contact wisekids@mandeljcc.org.
